Intel, Chunghwa Telecom Team up to Launch Low-cost Smartphones
February 17, 2014

Intel has chosen Chunghwa Telecom as the world's first telecom operator to launch value-line smartphones powered by Intel Atom processors, reported Taiwan's Commercial Times on February 17. The smartphones will be manufactured by Asus, and aim at a price range between NT$3,000 (US$100; US$1=NT$30.225) and NT$6,000 (US$200). Intel and Chunghwa Telecom have established a strategic partnership in cloud computing and IPTV, and this time will mark their first collaboration in the mobile phone market. Aside from Chunghwa Telecom, Asus is reportedly to approach other operators, such as Taiwan Mobile and Far Eastone in order to boost sales of the Intel smartphones, which could arrive as early as March.
